The Achievement Gap & Achievement Gap Task Force

What is an achievement gap?

An achievement gap refers to the measurable difference in performance between groups of students, especially groups defined by gender, race/ethnicity, and socioeconomic status.

What is the Achievement Gap Task Force doing to fix the achievement gap?

After collecting information about the achievement gap in Bloomington/Normal and studying solutions that other communities have found successful, the task force formed four solution development sub-committees:

Parental Involvement
Increase parental/family involvement in school activities and overall student education

Before & After School Programs
Provide opportunities to extend the school day through structured before and after school programs.

Data Modeling & Reporting
Create a system to enable improved collecting and reporting of student information in both Unit 5 and District 87.

Adopt-a-School
Identify ways various community organizations including churches, universities, and business can assist or “adopt” local schools
